MLK Day in Perspective

Martin Luther is a figure that is largely revered in our society. He has a national holiday and a memorial amongst other historical figures who were former presidents and sites that pay homage to fallen war heroes. He is, at the moment, the only person who has had that type recognition without being a president or fallen war hero. Its important to remember however that while living, he received much opposition from black and white people. He was considered a communist by some at a time where that was probably the worst title you could earn in America. To go from that to having a memorial on the National mall is indicative of his undeniable legacy.
